The band Pierce the Veil has been around for sometime now gaining popularity on every tour they have played. They are an American Hardcore/Experimental Rock band from San Diego California. All of the members of Pierce the Veil are Mexican, and proud of it. I have seen the band about 4 times and they always mention something about their ethnicity. I just recently saw Pierce the Veil on ‘The Gamechanger’s Tour’, along with We Came As Romans, Bring Me The Horizon, and A Day To Remember. After they played their opening song the lead singer, Vic Fuentes, tells the crowd that he was happy when he woke up today because they were parked outside of a Mexican restaurant.
At one of their previous shows they revealed that they are going to start a new kinda of genre of music…. Mexicore. They want to incorporate Mexican music into hardcore music. Which they have already began to do on their latest cd, Selfish Machines. Their song “The New National Anthem” has a nice mix of both genres. Recently Pierce the Veil did an interview with Common Revolt, telling them they plan to write a new album this summer followed up with a headliner tour in the fall. I am very excited about this news! One because new cd’s are always exciting. Two because if they keep up with the Mexicore genre like they say they are, their new cd is going to be amazing… Beyond amazing actually. Finally, three because fall tour! Great way to start off my senior year of college… Great music, being with my best friend, and gorgeous boys on stage. What more could I ask for? Well I could think of somethings… But we won’t go there.
All in all, I think if Pierce the Veil keeps going strong with Mexicore their new cd will be one of the best of the year. Even with their first album, A Flair for the Dramatic, Pierce the Veil put their heart and soul into their music. I love that they are putting their heritage into their music. They are proud of who they are. The anticipation for their new album is growing. I know they will not disappoint.
Lesson Learned: Be proud of who you are… ’Cause baby, you were born this way’

I’ve never listened to Pierce the Veil, but choosing to draw on their heritage and own experiences is a great idea. That’s one of the thing I absolutely LOVE about local bands. Their songs (and the way their music sounds) is created by their surroundings and the personal histories of each member of the band. It seems like some bands, once they ‘make it big’ begin to lose that close-to-home type of feel to their music. They get so focused on being involved in a business and making money that they forget about what it was that led them to success–their heritage, backgrounds and history. It’s nice to see more well-known bands bringing those elements to their music. And I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to start listening to Pierce the Veil.
